Hi,

I'm using FUDforum 2.6.13 in conjunction with mailing lists. The forum is hosted on a virtual domain. Postings made in the forum are posted to the corresponding mailing list, but the from address is wwwrun@<realhostname>.<realdomain>.com. That user is not subscribed to the list (and I can't do this since I have no control over the real domain of the server), so I have to approve all postings manually.

How can I change this 'From' address in the mails sent to the mailing lists?

Just to clarify: The mail also contains a 'From:' header that has the correct email of the user who posted the entry. But this is not used by the ML manager to determine if the user is autoapproved or not. It's that first 'From' header (without colon) that I want to change.

Chris

The from address used by the forum when sending e-mails back to the mailing list is the e-mail address of the user making the post. If you want to change this functionality, then you need to edit imsg_edt.inc.t script and specify a custom From address.

Unfortunately this only affects the second 'From', not the first one that the ML manager uses.

This is a header of such a mail, sent by FUDforum to the mailing list. hostname.domain.com is the primary domain of the sever that hosts the forum. The forum is run in a virtual domain (mydomain.org).

The line I want to change is 'From wwwrun(at)hostname(dot)domain(dot)com'. The 'From: forumuser <forumuser(at)mydomain(dot)org>' line is fine. Changes in imsg_edt.inc.t only affect the 2nd From line.

From wwwrun(at)hostname(dot)domain(dot)com Wed May 25 23:09:50 2005
Return-Path: wwwrun(at)hostname(dot)domain(dot)com

The 1st from is set by your (sending) SMTP server, the forum has not way of altering that value.

I'm using the build-in mail server, not an external one. I'll see if I can add some alias to the list manager's subscriber list. That would solve the problem as well.

Thanks anyway,
Chris
