I have an extract the existing list of subscribers to one of my Mailman mailing lists.

How do I register them as forum users and generate a new password which gets sent to them automatically?

Does anyone have a simple script which calls the needed function in fudapi.inc.php to create users from a text file of email addresses? I can find any example of the code to do this.

You should use FUDAPI to generate user accounts for those people. The FUDAPI includes a function that enables you to create new forum users.
