Importing old forum files broke my new forum. [message #166949] |

Yeah. We're trying to copy a FUD forum from a friend's web host to a new FUD forum on mine. Never occurred to me that she needed to update first, and of course, I ignored the "don't import files from an older version" warning. (Hers is 2.7 while mine is the 3.0.3 build.)
Now I can't get into my forum's admin at all. In fact I get a "invalid URL" message (oddly enough, the header and such are from my custom template) and if I click on the little "OK" button, I get this: "FATAL ERROR: No session, check your forum's URL and COOKIE settings".
So, what do I do? Obviously something is still semi-working if it's reading my custom template. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall? (I can copy the custom template for later use via my webhost file manager, so I won't lose that?) I figure my friend needs to upgrade on her end and I've asked her to do that. Problem is: will upgrading on her end wipe the board (as it has in the past)?
Please let me know how to proceed. The one thing I do NOT want to do is copy some 8 years worth of posts from one forum to the other. BTDT, did not like.
Thanks in advance.
ETA: I did create a data dump of my original forum but without the admin panel, I don't know how to reimport it.

Again, I've dealt with this by basically deleting everything and reinstalling.
However, is upgrading to 3.0.3 going to work for her? Will it overwrite all the data we have saved? Or will all the forums/posts/ad nauseum be okay? I'd really like to know because we've gone through this more than once and it always ends up us copying the posts over one by tedious one.
