I am subscribed to your Fudforum board. But I notice that the only mail I receive is the FIRST MESSAGE. If someone replies, I don't receive that by email. Is that by design or is it a bug?

It's by design. See the All Message Forum Notification setting in the Global Settings Manager:

"If enabled, subscribers to a forum will receive notifications about every new message in the forum, rather then just new topics in the forum."
