Some how this makes me feel good Smile

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=52969&highlight=fudforum

Quite funny, the just and unbiased phpbb people acuse the evil sellout npetreley.

npetreley thanks for your reviews Wink.. I wonder if I should disclose the amount of money we payed you for those reviews. It should satisfy them and possibly have them beat our price so you can give them a better review.

(I **HOPE** my sarcasm IS NOT LOST on anyone)

P.S. Here are some gems from the very informed phpbb community Smile

"Ths is the BEST forum software i have ever seen! i think it is the easiest to use...loads of MOD's, Styles and you can fully customise it...i have not seen FUD...but that according to that bloke it beats phpBB which i find very hard to believe..."

I've never heard of fud forum before reading this but I just went and looked at thier support forum and I wasnt pleased. I dont remember how I even found phpBB but I think if it would have looked liek that I would have closed the window and kept browsing. I didnt look at fud long, but thats just wrong. That guy obviously has a great bias toward fud. icon_exclaim.gif

Let the flame wars begin Smile? hehe

I know this article for some days now and found it quite amusing when I read it Wink However this comparison only tells how things really are with phpBB, that it's easy to administer but on the other hand hard to customize and lacking some advanced features. I can't really see what is wrong with telling ppl the truth that there are Gnu/GPL based forums who are a lot better.
Most popular stuff doesn't necessarily have to be the best choice Wink

Well, the funny part is how upset the phpbb people about not having the best reviews Wink. I guess they got so high up on their pedestal that being taken down a peg hurts... Who knows, maybe they are afraid FUD will outsell phpbb at one point for all that funky profit. Lets see... 100000(copies)x0(earned per copy)=0, as opposed to 1000000000000(copies)x0(earned per copy).... yep... 'S funny.. it hurts to know when you're not the best Wink

Some hi-quality comments on Nicholas Petreley's review from that forum:

sorry but i think they are more for this FUD rubbish

phpBB is a good forum package despite its limitations. It's snappy, has all of the necessary features for a basic forum and is incredibly easy to set up and manage.

so let me guess they didnt look at the features properly and they didnt look at the mod database

Very founded arguments. One can literally feel that he knows the software he's ranting at Wink

I wonder how much fud payed them.

I have tried it and yep phpbb is better

But why there's no reasoning for it, if it's said to be obvious? When we discussed phpBB we did name arguments against it. However, this is not needed at their forums because:

as usual, if you wish to discuss pros & cons of various forum s/w, please go to a (at least somewhat) neutral site, like the bear spot for example. there are many.

Yeah it's that easy. It seems the forum's peace is at stake once someone dares talking about a different software. What an embarrassing statement for a mod. I pity those people, but it proves they are aware of their software's limitation. Wink
just my 2¢

Don't forget that FUD's apparent ugliness in their eyes is also a limitation, because as everyone knows FUD's very limited templating system sucks...

phpBB had been fortunate enough to have a professional art designer make their layout. Comperatively speaking their 1.X releases were damn ugly, layout wise. I am sure that eventually someone will provide a much pretier default layout to FUDforum as well. However the ability to customize FUDforum layout has lead to numerous customization of layouts that often make it even difficult to tell that the backend is FUDforum. That is my opinion is true power.

Yeah the never-ending story about people who judge the looks and not the engine behind Smile. I find it interesting that these claims come from people who have never tried to customize a forum themselves. I have and I appreciate the freedom FUD gives me, unlike other solutions which hardly let u any other choice but inserting hex-values for the background color or exchanging the forum's knobs, buttons and switches Wink.

Fortunate for them because it could obscure some weak spots efficiently Wink. Concerning their 1.x series, not only has it been very ugly, but also very limited in terms of functionality, security and privacy. Has been the 1st php board I ve ever played around with and I was really disappointed when comparing to the (perl) cgi based big ones.

Exactly my opinion. Customization of each aspect of the forum and not just some fancy buttons in the background. Wink. I still don't know why some people state the forum would be ugly. Its design is functional and straight to the point, not too much distracting the eye. I don't like those bells and whistles which take an eternity to load. And so do visitors with 50.6kbit modem connection Wink
