i have the forum set to tree view (in topics and list) but it comes up in flat view with noone logged in.

i also have my admin profile set to tree view (in topics) and when i log in it comes up flat too

You need to the change the default view in the admin control panel. That'll affect non-logged in users.

When browsing your forum as non-logged in user I see both topics & messages in threaded mode.

are you sure - i just checked ( not logged in ) in IE and mozilla -- even cleared the cache and deleted the cookies and i can verify that i have the global prefs set to display as tree in both thread and message views but the forum is displaying flat in the thread view and tree in the message view

what could be an explanation for this

to be honest the tree view was the only thing i was really looking for in a forum - which is why i ended up picking FUDforum

i just tried the forum on the net at the local library and as on my pc it comes up in flat view ???

as i mentioned in my other post just now i am going to reinstall anyway
