Certainly there's a mailing list manager. Presumably any forum, even an nntp forum, can be setup as an e-mail mailing list?

You can see a FUDforum which has successfully integrated web <-> nntp <-> mailman email for a fully 3 way private conferencing system at http://bar.baen.com
The process there is that you register on the web. Registering on the web creates a login for you on the NNTP server for the bar, and the mailman email lists then mirror the newsgroups.
We have created a "subscribe to the forums" page which allows multiple simultanious subscriptions to the various mailman lists.
It works and it works well. We're still tweaking some of our decisions, but the users are very happy.

Not sure where you get that from. You can setup FUDforum to simultaneously import several e-mail lists and usenet groups. We do, however, recommend that you create separate forums for distinct message sources.
