Ah, now I understand
You can disable "Attachment Referrer Check" in the Global Settings Manager or apply the following patch

Edited and re-saved although the image didn't have the https/http path defined.

Strange, it's working on my private forum.
Try to edit the message, check that the image path is correct (without http/https prefix) and save it again.
