howdy. I've been trying to get the forum/mailing lists set up for a couple of weeks now, and my results have been head-bangingly strange. I've reverted to backups, and even reinstalled from scratch. Sometimes I get close, then a while later, it stops working.

What I've just noticed is that when I change some of the settings in the GSM and hit SET, pop back to the forum to test or wait a minute or so and come back to the GSM from the forum, the settings haven't stuck. The one that's stuck right now is User Account Settings: Allow Registration. I set it to NO, hit the SET button at the bottom of its section, go back to the forums, then back to the GSM, and it's back to YES.

This one was fairly easy to notice, as even this test forum is getting bombarded with fake registration attempts. Luckily the New Account Moderation: YES -is- sticking.

if it's any help, here's my option settings:

$GLOBALS['FUD_OPT_1'] = 1735324733; 110 0111 0110 1110 1111 0100 0011 1111
$GLOBALS['FUD_OPT_2'] = 1774589023; 110 1001 1100 0110 0001 0100 0101 1111
$GLOBALS['FUD_OPT_3'] = 42426432; 10 1000 0111 0110 0000 0100 0000
$GLOBALS['FUD_OPT_4'] = 3; 11

by the way, on the installs there were LOTS of mis-set permissions. I ran a couple of scripts to set them back to 755 for folders and 644 for files. hostgator pops up ERROR 500 if it finds files with 777 permissions. Could that be causing any of this weirdness?

thanks,

dale
