I've just recently noticed on a FUD 2.6.4 powered forum that i'm an admin/mod of that that user uploaded images aren't being cached in my and other users browser caches (I've tested this on IE6.1 & Firefox 1.0).
I've tried searching here for a fix/reason but can't find one and have come to the possible conclusion that its because the url of uploaded images don't end in a browser recognisable extension unlike images from elsewhere with full url's
eg [i.m.g]index.php?t=getfile&id=2521&private=0[/i.mg]
Most [if not all browsers] must then discard the image data from there caches even though of course the images must be there in some form - of course i could be wrong in this assumption but its my best guess as to why and a fix would be nice.
The end result of this non-caching is that particullarly on threads with multiple images (we have a good few) each time the thread is accessed by a user everything has to be re-downloaded by them which as you can imagine is quite a drain on bandwidth and annoying slow for users [even those on BB]
I should just add that even though I have admin rights on the forum its not mine to tinker with (too much) and tbh I don't know much about linux/apache anyway so any suggestions/fixes anyone can suggest I'll pass onto the owner of the site who knows his stuff but is very busy with work atm
